Mahomet Lodge was chartered on October 7, 1856 in Mahomet, Illinois. The original building was located where Sangamon School is today. That building burned down in a “dastardly conflagration” in 1876. For a few months the lodge rented a space a few doors up from the current building, but by late 1876 a new structure had been built on the current site. This image below is of the 1876 building and taken in 1948.

By 1949 the members needed a new building as it is reported strong winds blew through the siding. So in April 1949 a new building was built. The members tried to reuse as much material as they could from the 1876 building in this new cinder block building, which sits in the same spot today.

The above image is of the building, shortly after construction. In 1959 Mansfield Lodge merged with Mahomet Lodge, and in 2003 Sangamon Lodge in Fisher, Illinois merged with Mahomet Lodge. Not much was done to the exterior of the building in the intervening years, other than a larger canopy over the front door. In 2021, however, the lodge received a long overdue makeover on the exterior, as it looks today.
